Salary : $71,000 to $89,000 with Competitive Compensation and Benefits Packages

The SNCDSB Mental Health Worker will be a valued and key member of our internal Mental Health andWell-being Team. The Mental Health Worker is a 12-month position and will work within a multidisciplinary team to provide both in person and virtual support to our students, families, staff andcommunities within the SNCDSB. The Mental Health Worker will coordinate and implement student mental health supports in alignment with the board-wide Mental Health Strategy.

The Mental Health Worker will enhance school board capacity to address student mental health and support needs, with the following key responsibilities:

  • Ability to work effectively with a full range of students, including students with special needs, utilizing specific skills and training;
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with students, families,teachers, administrators, and internal and external stakeholders;
  • Providing individual and/or family counselling (in person or virtual) and support to students as determined necessary by the Mental Health Lead;
  • Identifying, assessing, and responding respectfully to sensitive and confidential student issues;
  • Developing and facilitating group sessions for students as required, and delivering classroom-based programming upon request;
  • Ability to provide risk assessments for students and refer students to external services and supports;
  • Connecting and liaising with community agencies and outside professionals to ensure timely and targeted support for our students;
  • Participate in ongoing clinical supervision with the board's Mental Health Leader;
  • Ability to manage a caseload, effectively prioritize and provide follow up on a case-by-case basis using evidence and measurement based care;
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously on a day-to-day basis;
  • Ability to build safe, supportive, and genuine relationships with all members of school communities;
  • Maintain case files and reports that are in compliance with PHIPA; and
  • Maintains confidentiality and the dignity of all they serve.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Successful completion of postsecondary degree in a social work or related field;
  • Registered and in good standing with a College recognized by the Psychotherapy Act;
  • Minimum of five-year experience in the human services or mental health field is preferred;
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, systems theory, family dynamics and the clinical assessment process;
  • Must undergo a successful Vulnerable Sector Screening check; and
  • Successful Completion of all Safety training courses
